Purpose: The workshop aims to facilitate an in-depth analysis and comparison of coupled forecast models focusing on the Arctic Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ). Through collaborative efforts, participants will discuss the performance and uncertainties of various forecasting systems in predicting interactions between weather, sea-ice, ocean, and waves. Key Objectives: - Provide a platform for researchers to present and discuss findings from the Svalbard Marginal Ice Zone 2024 Campaign. - Evaluate the effectiveness of different coupling approaches used in Arctic forecasting models. - Foster international collaboration among experts from atmospheric sciences, oceanography, earth system modeling, and remote sensing. - Generate recommendations f(targeted to WMO-PCAPS, ICARP, IPY) for enhancing the accuracy and reliability of coupled Arctic forecasting systems Key Challenges: - Understanding the dynamic interactions between atmospheric conditions, sea-ice dynamics, and wave characteristics in the Arctic MIZ. - Integrating observational data from diverse sources with model outputs to improve predictive capabilities. - Addressing the complexities and uncertainties associated with coupling methods across different modeling frameworks. - Ensuring effective communication and knowledge exchange among interdisciplinary participants. The workshop promotes interdisciplinary dialogue and collaboration, aiming to advance Arctic forecasting capabilities through shared insights and innovative approaches. Its outcomes will contribute to improved understanding and management of Arctic environmental challenges, benefiting both scientific communities and stakeholders involved in Arctic research, policy-making and operations.
