Working group on digital technologies to assess cognition and function in Alzheimer’s Disease and other dementias

Tildelt: kr 0

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and other dementias are one of the biggest global health challenges of our time. They are characterised by an increasing loss of cognitive functions and associated impairments in activities of daily living (i.e. functional decline). Given the increasing adoption of digital technologies by older adults, we should leverage the shift in digital engagement to move towards remote personal medicine and promote the use of digital technologies in dementia to improve prevention, diagnosis, and therapy. Remote memory clinics, digital data and biomarkers will likely be cornerstones of dementia care in the future. Major advances in the last decade in digital technologies have opened a window of opportunity to introduce digital endpoints into clinical trials and digital biomarkers have been suggested to be a promising way to explain, influence, and predict health-related outcomes by seizing the opportunities offered by digital technologies. These developments are a product of advancements in different fields, such as healthcare, engineering, analytics, ethics and governance, and the commercialization of digital technologies. Our working group of expert scientists, clinicians, and digital experts working in the field of dementia proposes to integrate our expertise knowledge to come forth with guidelines and recommendations in the assessment of cognition and function in Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment using digital technologies. The outcome from our working group will be relevant for clinical practice, clinical research, the development of digital technologies for the use in dementia care and building digital biobanks. This will benefit future patients and the broader community and will foster new research ideas that allow a future better care for people living with dementia.
