Recycling of Armour materials for added value products

Europe is a net importer of the raw materials used for manufacturing ceramic armour products. Therefore, the overall idea of the project is to research on technologies that promote the feasibility of recycling used ballistic ceramic plates for defence applications. The project will focus on the most utilised materials such as silicon carbide, boron carbide and alumina. The proposed technologies will be tested and validated for three final applications: • Ballistic ceramic plate applications • Additive manufacturing of ceramic segments for repair of ballistic plates • Thermal spraying applications on textiles and surfaces
