Knowledge and practice in the fishing sector under changing management regimes. A comparative study between Norway and Newforundland.

Future challenges in the respect of recruitment, practice and knowledge in the fishing fleet are studied through a comparative study of in the fishing fleet in Norway and Newfoundland. The study has focus on mechanisms and structures which are important f or how knowledge is generated, implemented and situated in relation to the practices in the fishing fleet in the two areas, how this knowledge and practice are linked together, how the links are established, how they change under changing regimes and how knowledge and practice count in different parts in the sector. The theoretical and methodological framework is Actor-Network Theory, which regards knowledge as something that is generated, situated and relocated in heterogeneous networks. Of particular in terest are the changes that occurred when the fisheries management regimes shifted from open to closed access and how these changes implemented new systems of knowledge and enforced changes in fishing practices. The main methods are document and literature analysis and focused interviews. Data sources are official documents, reports, statistics and interviews. This proposed post.doc project is a successor a PhD (Dr. scient) work, and will be accomplished in co-operation between researchers at CRR and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
