We intend to study several topics within the fields of modern quantum optics and quantum information theory. In particular we will study the generation of entangled states of atoms inside and optical resonator. We look for enhanced methods where entanglem ent between two atomic systems can be induced. Furthermore, we want to extend and apply techniques developed in earlier work to describe entanglement manipulation and gate dynamics, e.g. gate switching rates. We also intend to demonstrate how decay can le ad to entanglement of quantum system rather than destoying it. We will look for new examples in which the interaction of a system with its environment can be used to produce entanglement in a controlled way.
