Borealis has developed its own technology for bimodal PE and PP. Multimodal polyolefins will lead to a step change in properties and be the future market leaders. Multimodality can be obtained in basically three ways; a) more reactors in series, b) severa l active catalyst systems and c) by blending. To reduce time to market for a new innovated product, polymer grades will be developed utilising small bench scale polymerisation reactors. The experience from the bench scale development will be utilised als o as input to catalyst and process development, for scale-up to semi-or full-scale for selected multi modal products can be done. Develeopment of models for ultra fast product development is needed and will lead to:a) products faster to market due to sh orter product development times, b) faster scale-up to production plant by improved direct scale-up from bench scale reactors and c) improved customer satisfaction by direct involvement in model based product evelopment.
