Research in environmental engineering - personal mobility scholarship for Jon B. Manchester

Awarded: NOK 0.14 mill.

The University of Stavanger has a degree program in Environmental Engineering; B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph.D. The University of Wisconsin-Madison has for decades been a world leader in engineering education in general, including Environmental Engineering. In order for UiS to accelerate nationally as well as internationally in Environmental Engineering, UiS has been invited by Chancellor John Wiley and Director of External Relations Cynthia Williams to enter a professional relationship between the two institutions. Our specific relationship will start with the Water Science and Engineering Laboratory, a part of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. Dr. Jon B. Manchester will be our contact person and is willing to come to UiS for a period of seven months starting the fall of 2005. Jon is an Assistant Scientist (staff position) and received all his degrees from UW; Ph.D. in 1993. He has published in Journals like Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry as well as Journal of Great lakes Research. His research topics have typically been ?faith and effects? of chemicals in the aquatic environment. This is a research field where also UiS has competency and we therefore see great synergy with UW. UiS has ongoing resear ch on degradation of hydrocarbons (HC) in marine environments at low temperatures. Jon will supplement our research with his experiences with degradation of other chemicals as well as instrumentation for monitoring degradation.
