Improved Accuracy and Reliability of the Real Time Kinematic Global Navigation Satellite System Cpos

Awarded: NOK 0.26 mill.

The aim of the project is to improve the performance and accuracy of the CPOS service. To be able to optimize the service, it is important to have the best fitted coordinates. Such an improvement will give the users of CPOS a more reliable result accordin g to the height determination. Today the users of CPOS experience differences between measured heights compared to existing height model. To be able to fully utilize the GPS RTK network -technology, it would be important to improve the coordinate input in CPOS to optimize the results. Obtainable height accuracy in CPOS is specified to be 8 cm in 95% of the time. However, we have experienced that users have exceeded this limit, due to differences between CPOS and the exciting height model. As earlier des cribed, CPOS is operating with ellipsoidical heights. Due to the Norwegian topography, ortometric height estimation has always been a challenge. A geoid model in CPOS will give all users a uniform determination of ortometric heights. The service will be e asier to use, and an important error source will be reduced. Such a service will give the Norwegian Mapping Authority a great advantage compared to other service providers world wide. The users of CPOS are responsible of the transformation to ortometric heights themselves, by use of geoide models or regionally based transformations. During this project we want to integrate the geoide model as a part of the CPOS service. A such improvement will be of benefit for the users, due to more practical routines and without any use of individually (and risky) solutions on the users side. A team consisting of representatives from all of the innovative chain will develop a BIP project based on studies of the existing systems and knowledge. The results will improv e the competiveness of the end users and meet a growing demand in the society on advanced public services.
