To support the educational perspectives of the International Polar Year, this project will prepare a resource for students and teachers - not only for the countries active in the Arctic and Antarctic, but also for all interested parties.
***The main outp ut will be a set of five thematic posters that will present background and scientific information targeted for students aged 13 and upwards.***
The posters will primarily present polar science and issues and secondarily create awareness of IPY and its re search activities. The main objective is to try to answer the question: Why, and how, are the Polar Regions and polar research important to all people on Earth?
The five themes that we will address, in one poster each, will be:
- Background on the Polar Regions
- Climate change
- Polar people
- Science on the poles
- Biodiversity & natural resources
Effort will be spent to give the posters a long lifetime and a timeless quality, to ensure that they are relevant for the whole duration of the Internationa l Polar Year, and for many years beyond. The posters will be a resource that is useful enough to leave them on the wall for many years.
To support this, there will also be set up a web-site with additional and supporting information resources, downloads of all graphics (without royalties) and teaching guides.
The posters will be printed and distributed in co-operation with the IPY International Programme Office.
