Revidert - Basic energy efficient distillation technology

This revised project shall be used to focus this proposal towards processes relevant for gas conversion. A survey in the area will be carried out and the research objective and research tasks will be defined more precisely. Original summary (refer to t he attached original project description): Separation of the components of natural gas into a set of product streams is a basic task for all kinds of natural gas processing. Distillation is the main technology and is responsible for a significant part of the energy consumption. New distillation arrangements, like Dividing Wall Columns, internally heat integrated columns (HIDiC), heat integrated double effect columns etc. show that there is a potential for significant reduction of energy consumption. It i s important to do further research in this area in order to obtain new knowledge and to reduce uncertainties about the design and operation so that the technology becomes available for industrial use. Reduced energy consumption, reduced capital cost and r educed CO2 emission should the main objectives. Increased knowledge and improved international knowledge networks are also important outcomes of a research project.
