NOP Development of Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment and Health

Awarded: NOK 73,592

Our goal going forward is to gradually phase out subscriptions and fund the Journal through individual open access purchases, institutional membership in our newly founded publishing not-for-profit society (NOROSH), charging for print copies and external funding. In order to maintain SJWEH's rigorous peer review process and cover editing, production, IT, and marketing costs, the Journal cannot move overnight to open access. Therefore, in the short- to medium-term, the economic model of the Journal will re main mixed. We are mostly supported via subscriptions but there are an increasing number of open access purchases and in 2013, 5 organisations joined NOROSH as contributing members in addition to our 4 full members in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. SJWEH is seeking funding in 4 main areas: - awareness raising effort to promote NOROSH and increase membership to offset the forecasted decrease in subscriptions - customisation of Open Journal Systems (OJS), a open source publishing platform, to suit th e Journal's needs. - enhancement of the journal's website in the OJS system - development of XML publishing workflow in order to be able to submit files to PubMed Central(we currently publish only electronic PDF on our website and want to add XML and ePu b option). We estimate the total funding required will be 176,000 NOK and are requesting 80,905 NOK in support.
