Optimized offshore accommodation services by developing new DP philosophy & Simulator-based training

Alternative title: Optimaliserte offshore hotelltjenester ved utvikling av ny DP strategi og simulatorbasert trening

Awarded: NOK 4.8 mill.

Project Number:

235763

Project Period:

2014 - 2017

Location:

Safety level and weather window are two crucial factors for the success of any accommodation vessel or platform serving the hotel function for various offshore platform operations. The intention of the proposed innovation project is to increase safety lev el and weather window for monohull Accommodation Vessels by a) improving station keeping capability through optimizing Dynamic Positioning (DP) strategies and b) improving safety through fit-for-purpose training of marine crew.

Safety level and weather window are two crucial factors for the success of any accommodation vessel or platform serving the hotel function for various offshore platform operations. The project intends to increase safety level and weather window by: - o ptimization of a customized DP control strategy utilizing simulation tools with input from previously performed model tests - the optimization also includes adjusting DP control strategy to better utilise the full operational window defined for the opera tion - analysing data from sea trials and standard operations for improving simulation models (Marintek SIMO and Kongsberg training simulator) - building a training simulator software where the marine crew can train on critical operations and incidents an d prepare for planned operations. Gangway connection and disconnection operations are performed relatively rarely, and training of the crew for these situations is important to avoid damages to personnel or structures. The proposed innovation project wil l make good use of experience transfer from operation of the previous generation accommodation vessels as well as extensive model tests and analyses performed in 2012 for the new generation. During operation of the new generation vessel, extensive and acc urate full scale data from the ship will be measured, collected and used to improve, update and tune the simulator models. This vessel is currently under construction at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea, and delivery is scheduled to mid 2015.
