The ESUSHI project has developed information and analysis services for use in fisheries. By customizing, analyzing and visualizing large amounts of data on catch, environment and marine chemistry allows fishermen and ship owners through graphical interactive interfaces: 1) Look at all registered catch for their shipping company, compiled with environmental / climate parameters, vessels and operating data in maps compiled with graphs / columns / pie chart 2) Play historical fishing trips with real-time statistics for the trip and map plotting 3) Get a prediction on good and bad catch areas for cod fishing on your chosen date. The project succeeded in developing and testing advanced services in close cooperation with end users. The results are used further to new initiatives where the entire industry will be users.

The Norwegian fisheries has reached a state where improvements in fishing methods and vessel designs are getting more scarce. But there might still be room for improvement, given that decision makers could have access to better information. This project will investigate the possibility of combining and analysing data from on-board systems and instruments with land-based information sources. The primary objective of the project is to establish a robust information system for the fishing fleet that improves the efficiency of fisheries, thereby improving profitability and reducing the fleet's environmental footprint. We will develop and evaluate three new innovative software components for use in fisheries: - eSushi-Operation: a software application that is installed on a vessel for data acquisition from on-board systems and instruments. Data is filtered and sent to a central on-shore service for integration and and analysis. The result from the analysis is retrieved and presented to the crew onboard in a graphical user interface in the software application, or exported to third party devices such as map plotters or mobile devices. - eSushi-Planning: which is software for integration and coordination of data from one or more vessels that run the Operation module. - eSushi-Analysis: a platform with services for collection and processing of measurements from vessels and shipowner databases, that use models with open public data to create forecasts for fish availability to the vessel or shipowner that requests the analysis. Nordnes has a strong focus on innovation and eSushi will strengthen their focus on improving catch and operation efficiency. Being a demanding end user, Nordnes will push the research partners to develop a system that will have a real impact on their core business. Nordnes is famous for its active educational programs, and eSushi will add a new dimension to this with increased focus on factors that affect fishing operations.
