GLOBAL NETWORKING IN ECOSYSTEM MODELLING, SCIENCE AND MANAGEMENT: ATLANTIS ECOSYSTEM MODELLING SUMMIT

Awarded: NOK 24,999

End-to-end ecosystem models have become an integral tool in implementing the nascent ecosystembased management. The Atlantis modeling framework is one such large modular ecosystem model that can model all trophic levels from energy input into human harvesting and fisheries economics. Atlantis has seen increased use worldwide in the decade since its initial development. The Institute of Marine Research, CSIRO and NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service now see the need to organize an international workshop, called the Atlantis Summit, planned for Honolulu, December 2015 to: - Help nascent developers - Heighten the sense of community for Atlantis practitioners - Share best-practices, tools and methods - Establish and test various Atlantis models using similar scenarios - Understand capabilities and limitations of Atlantis - Provide feedback for further development of Atlantis in particular and ecosystem models in general on how to address current and future management challenges and climate change. We therefore apply for funding for work hours and travel cost for the three Norwegian members of the steering committee/conveners, as well as financial support for an 'ice breaker' social event.
