The basic business idea is a gas-sensor the size of a sugar cube which is more sensitive and has a lower production cost than competing solutions, and where various applications can utilize identical hardware with only minor changes in software. This will be achieved by utilizing an electronically tunable micro-optical filter in addition to a novel detector technology. The gas-sensor is based on patented technology developed at SINTEF and licensed to the start-up company Tunable InfraRed Technologies AS. Key elements of the sensor have been demonstrated previously. The main challenge in the extended project is to produce prototypes of sensors that can be verified for use in selected application areas.
