The development of mathematical models for multiphase flow has been instrumental for several field developments on the Norwegian continental shelf and globally. Norwegian industry has acquired a world-leading position through a long and good collaboration with research institutions and the oil and gas companies. The ability to predict and understand multiphase flow phenomena like slugging is crucial as production of hydrocarbons moves to deeper waters, areas with lower temperatures and longer tie-backs. A major concern in subsea and deep-water developments is fatigue induced by slug flow on unsupported structures. Slugging also has a large impact on the design of receiving facilities which could be limited due to weight and space requirements. Uncontrolled slug flow increases operational risk for personnel, equipment and the environment. Through extensive upfront simulations in a project's early phase, it is possible to find the optimal design and operational procedures that mitigate these risks. LedaFlow's Slug Capturing model is unique in the market and represents a step-change with its ability to predict slugging, with an accuracy existing models do not provide. There is a unified message from the industry that Slug Capturing's high accuracy is much needed. However, these high fidelity results often take too long to compute compared to simpler models, and compliance requirements enforced by the time lines of field development prevents practical adoption of Slug Capturing during engineering of new fields. Kongsberg will together with its partners pilot and commercialize an improved and computationally faster Slug Capturing model within LedaFlow. We will apply the pilot on field studies in cooperation with larger operators to verify accuracy and performance such that Slug Capturing becomes the tool the industry requests. Within the project, we will utilize high quality datasets from ongoing experimental campagns at SINTEF and IFE to further enhance the models.

Achieved outcome: - The Slug Capturing software has achieved through the project a significant improved performance meeting industrial accuracy and commercial simulation speed Planned achievements: - The improved Slug Capturing code is fundamental for commercializing LedaFlow as a cloud service with a Slug Capturing app as the first commercial available product to the market
