Project Period:

2017 - 2017

Location:

Structural damage to the wellhead and/or riser system may lead to an accident where the rig is not able to shut-down the well from leaking hydrocarbons to the environment. Therefore, it is a requirement to use a weak link making sure a structural failure occurs at a pre-determined position above the wellhead. Traditional weak links are standard drill pipe joints machined to a lower wall thickness to accommodate for a lower maximum tensile capacity. However, such a solution introduces a permanent weak link, which is a disadvantage during installation and retrieval operations where full structural capacity is required. The conflicting structural capabilities required by lifting equipment and weak links, force operators to compromise and sometimes circumvent the regulations by not using weak links. WellPartner has systematically developed and patented the WellSafe Installer technology for reducing risk and increasing efficiency in running and "locked to bottom" operations. Our WellSafe Installer has a unique "Bolts-Collar" design, which allows us to switch between Weak and Strong Mode, and to adjust the maximum tensile force setting based on specific operational parameters.
