Graphene enhanced battery: A preliminary study

Awarded: NOK 0.20 mill.

Due to its extraordinary physical and chemical properties, graphene is expected to become a key component in future Lithium-ion batteries (LIB) to improve critical properties such as energy density, power density and cyclic performance as well as operational safety. Using CealTechs newly installed research facilities, the company is aiming at developing new graphene-enhanced materials for LIB applications. In this pre-project, the first in-house electrodes for LIB will be fabricated using CealTechs graphene (or alternatively using best commercially available graphene) amongst other active materials. The results will be compared with other electrodes based on conventional materials such as carbon black. In parallel to the scientific development on materials, CealTech's will organize workshops with potential Norwegian research partners to establish a consortium for sending a new application to NANO2021 in the autumn 2017.
