BIA-Brukerstyrt innovasjonsarena

The market for inspection and maintenance is enormous and necessary in many industries. Among other things, the world market for non-destructive testing and inspection alone is estimated at NOK 99 billion in 2022. Inspection and maintenance work is often characterized by challenges with comprehensive and labor-intensive processes in environments with, for example, chemicals or dust. Automation and robotization have led to better working conditions, upheavals and increased cost-effectiveness in many industries. There have so far been few automation solutions available in inspection and maintenance, but this is about to change and it is just a matter of time before automation and robotization will be key resources in inspection and maintenance as well. The main objective of the RINVE network is to ensure that Norwegian businesses can capitalize on the opportunities offered by increased global and national market demand, new technology and research-based innovation in automation and robotization in inspection and maintenance. The target audience of the network runs across several industries and includes end users and owners of large-scale infrastructure, contracting firms and painting firms, technology providers, system integrators and other service providers. To realize the main objective of RINVE, the network will focus on facilitating innovation by organizing innovation workshops, developing opportunity studies and factual bases, identifying and developing value chains, establishing cross-sectoral collaboration and launching new projects within, among other things, the BIA program within the Norwegian Research Council. At RINVE, we have so far held 2 innovation workshops with a total of about 35 companies and 4 research organizations, in addition to the Research Council of Norway, and we have contributed to arranging the RAIC2021 conference which included three RINVE-workshops. The focus of the workshops and conference was to facilitate new collaborative constellations and project initiatives. So far, the partners in RINVE have initiated at least 6 innovation projects, 2 knowledge-building projects, and 2 EU projects within inspection and maintenance robotics. We have also prepared a possibility study in robotics and automation for inspection and maintenance, and we have supported two master students at NTNU in producing theses and international conference papers on the use of machine learning in connection with automatic detection of corrosion damage. Such methods are very important for businesses to utilize commercially and on a large scale the data collected from drones and robots in inspection and maintenance. RINVE-nettverket har bidratt til økt kompetanse på behov, muligheter og begrensninger innen robotikk (inkludert droner) og automatisering i inspeksjon og vedlikehold (I&V). Sluttbrukere har kunnet blitt enda bedre i stand til å ta i bruk og kjøpe inn teknologi og tjenester innen I&V-robotikk gjennom økt kompetanse på mulighetene og begrensningene med dagens teknologi og tjenester. RINVE har også kunnet bidra til at teknologi- og tjenesteleverandører har fått økt forståelse av de konkrete behovene i markedet for å spisse sine løsninger mot dette. Det samme gjelder FOU-organisasjoner som er enda bedre blitt satt i stand til å utvikle strategisk kompetanse som det er behov for i markedet. For samtlige gjelder dette både nasjonalt og internasjonalt. RINVEs medlemmer har i nettverksperioden fått i gang mange nye innovasjonsprosjekter for å utvikle og kommersialisere nye løsninger i markedet. RINVE-nettverket vil fortsette aktiviteten også i årene fremover.

Markedet for inspeksjon og vedlikehold er enormt og nødvendig innen en rekke bransjer. Blant annet er verdensmarkedet for ikke-destruktiv testing og inspeksjon alene estimert til 99 milliarder kroner i 2022. Inspeksjon- og vedlikeholdsarbeid er ofte preget av utfordringer med omfattende og arbeidsintensive prosesser i miljø med f.eks. kjemikalier eller støv. Automatisering og robotisering har ført til bedre arbeidsforhold, omveltninger og økt kostnadseffektivitet i mange bransjer. Det har så langt vært få automatiseringsløsninger tilgjengelig innen inspeksjon og vedlikehold, men dette er i ferd med å endre seg og det bare et spørsmål om tid før automatisering og robotisering vil være nøkkelressurser i inspeksjon og vedlikehold også. Hovedmålet til RINVE-nettverket er å bidra til å sikre at norsk næringsliv kan kapitalisere på de mulighetene som økt global og nasjonal markedsetterspørsel, ny teknologi, og forskningsbasert innovasjon kan gi innen automatisering og robotisering innen inspeksjon og vedlikehold. Målgruppen til nettverket går på tvers av bransjer og inkluderer sluttbrukere og eiere av stor infrastruktur, entreprenører og malerfirma, teknologileverandører, systemintegratører og andre tjenesteleverandører. For å realisere hovedmålet til RINVE vil nettverket ha fokus på å legge til rette for innovasjon ved å arrangere innovasjonsworkshops, utarbeide mulighetsstudier og faktagrunnlag, identifisere og utvikle verdikjeder, etablere samarbeid på tvers av bransjer og starte nye prosjekter innen blant annet BIA-programmet hos Norges Forskningsråd.
