The age of metamorphism and deformation of the Müllernesset Formation of Oscar II Land

The project concerns investigations of the age of metamorphism and deformation in the Proterozoic metasedimentary rocks exposed on the western part of Oscar II Land in Svartfjellstranda and their contact with adjacent units. Two week fieldwork will be aimed at measurements of geological structures and collection of the rock samples needed for geochronological study of metamorphic evolution of garnet bearing micaschists of the Müllernesset Formation. Results will answer important questions in discussion concerning assembly of Svalbard and High Arctic reconstructions.
