Measuring subglacial processes, RiS ID 11156

Awarded: NOK 66,200

The project aims for an increased process understanding of subglacial hydrology through direct investigations in the light of recent work featuring the need for a better process understanding related to subglacial hydrology. Several glacier cave systems around Longyearbyen will be used to gain access to the glacier bed. Various sensor platforms will be installed in the glacier bed during spring and recovered in the following winter. A successful recovery of the data together with repeated mapping of the glacier cave geometry, will allow for fundamental new insights into processes occuring at the glacier bed and their connection to glacier dynamics.
