Cloud-based Maintenance IIoT Platform for Smart Manufacturing

Alternative title: Skybasert Vedlikeholds IIoT-Plattform for Smart Produksjon

Awarded: NOK 3.8 mill.

The main objective of CM4SMART was to perform research, development, simulation and production implementation of a smart manufacturing maintenance solution based on cloud technologies. The result of the project will enable digital transformation of the production in the direction of smart maintenance and new data driven production efficiency models for the SME sector. Following the key Industry 4.0 design principles, the project has succeeded to interconnect business level software systems with operational data from the field thus aligning production schedules with maintenance activities. Innovative machine learning algorithms for predictive maintenance analyses data and propose both preventive and optimisation actions before machine failures take place thus aiming at zero downtime, zero defected manufacturing and a greener enterprise. The research, development, simulation and implementation in production activities of an intelligent maintenance solution, based on the cloud technologies within the project, materialized in the development of two pilot installation (one at HTS Maskinteknikk and one at Icpe), both of them being functional experimental models. The main R&D results generated in CM4Smart: ? Research and Design of scalable cloud-based architecture for Industry 4.0 solution in Azure Environment that allows seamless integration with other cloud based solutions ? Performed a research of reliable and robust sensor solutions for telemetry enrichment in the enterprise with non-intrusive clamp-on sensors. ? Research of self-service BI capabilities to serve on-time delivery, root cause analysis and planning ? Research and development of advanced ML data analytical models for predictive maintenance. ? Development of Profit Loss Indicators with use of RAMS (research) tools and requirement. ? Further development of existing and proposals for new international standards for IEC TC 56 Dependability, ISO 55000 Asset management and CEN TC 319 Maintenance (we have a representative in all this standardization bodies.) The CM4Smart results produced by the partners are meant to provide the following value for the manufacturing industry: ? Traceability in near real-time and historical overview of production process parameters ? Comparison and optimization of manufacturing processes across the organization ? across shifts, teams, locations, operators ? Automated objective manufacturing KPI evaluation ? Improved operator/machine ratio ? Increased availability, optimized workload and costs ? Early detection of deviations from plan ? Software layer between machines and LoB systems ? Decision-making support for all actors in enterprise ? Predictive, rather than preventive, maintenance ? Fast detection and reaction in case of failure ? Overall improvement of enterprise innovation capacity and productivity The results has led to new services within Smart Maintenance in the Upkip Industry 4.0 portfolio. This ensures that the industry has an opportunity to make use of the project results through acquiring the Smart Maintenance module. Further on each of the involved partners has gained valuable insight and know-how.

ICB Digital has through the CM4Smart project been able to research and develop an Industrial IoT solution branded as Upkip, with a Smart Maintenance Module enabling manufacturing enterprises to reduce machine failures and monitor key production parameters. ICPE has increased its productivity, reduced costs of manufacturing, reduced costs of maintenance with machine tools, increased the interoperability and modularity of the manufacturing chain, this allowing the company to be more competitive. HTS has gained valuable experience of sensor technology and how it can contribute to increased production efficiency and reduction in maintenance costs. The implementation of Upkip has enabled HTS to monitor machinery and infrastructure. NTNU has developed further scientific knowledge on SMART maintenance, including preventive and predictive. Especially, towards small and medium sized manufacturing enterprises.

The main objective of CM4Smart is to perform research, development, simulation and production implementation of smart manufacturing maintenance solution based on cloud technologies. The result of the project will enable the digital transformation of the production in the direction of smart maintenance and new data-driven production efficiency models for the SME sector. Following the key Industry 4.0 design principles, the project will aim to interconnect businesslevel software systems with operational data from the field thus aligning production schedules with maintenance activities. Innovative machine learning algorithms for predictive maintenance will analyse data, identify hidden insights and propose both preventive and optimisation actions before machine failures take place thus aiming at zero downtime, zero defected manufacturing and greener enterprise. The project will combine deep IIoT technology understanding and project experience from the leading partner ICN Interconsult Norway, strong R&D capacity from NTNU (Norway) and practical knowledge and real manufacturing challenges coming from two production enterprises – ICPE (Romania) and HTS Maskinteknikk (Norway).
