The BiWAS unit consists of two sensors that continuously measure the numbers of cells in drinking water and the chemical status of the water. The technology works as an early warning system, giving an alarm if the status of the water changes and the number of cells in the water increases. The sensors are small, robust, accurate and cheap and can be placed in different locations throughout the distribution system. They might therefor also indicate problem areas of the distribution network and provide valuable data on where to focus maintenance and reparations of the drinking water distribution network. The sensors are currently under development, and this project focuses on the verification of the biological sensor counting the numbers of cells in the water. Verification of this technology will enable a pilot-production of the sensor. Having verified the biological sensor is an important milestone as it enables the pilot production of this sensor and further testing in collaboration with paying customers.
