With the growth in ageing population, the burden of disease is increasing, as are the associated healthcare costs. There is a need for cost-effective and feasible treatments for prevention and treatment of disease. Marine products hold a great potential. Marine organisms produce biologically active substances with antitumor, antiparasitic, analgesic, triglyceride lowering, and anti-inflammatory properties. However, satisfying the regulatory process to get these substances to the consumer is difficult and for a lot of companies is the rate limiting step. Marine for Health is a project within the NCE Blue Legasea which was established according to the industry's desire for a knowledge hub on raw marine materials, ingredients, effects on health, and need for faster and more efficient development and commercialization of high-quality marine products. Marine Research and Business Innovation Platform project within Marine for Health, has a goal to alleviate the commercialization process of marine products, and to make expert knowledge available to companies to build a strong national and international network. This aligns with the MARINFORSK aims to strengthen the foundations for sustainable management and value creation based on marine resources across the entire value chain. We are asking for partial financial support of 95000 NOK from the Research Council to organize a seminar which will secure Marine Research and Business Innovation Platform’s success by highlighting and quantifying the extent of regulatory guidance marine companies need to achieve successful market authorization of their product. Current regulatory authority guidance is not straight forward for marine ingredients. The Marine for Health Seminar on regulatory requirements will address the needs voiced by the NCE Blue Legasea marine company members and will serve as a venue for exchange of ideas, solutions, and new collaborations between national, and international regulatory experts and businesses.
