GRØNNPLATTFORM-Grønn plattform

Hydrogen powered fishing vessels (FISHY) Pre-project

Awarded: NOK 0.30 mill.

The primary goal for FISHY is to define the main project under the "Grønn Plattform" that will demonstrate a new metal hydride hydrogen storage tank, integrated with a PEM fuel cell system, on a 10-15m fishing vessel. The core group at IFE will identify relevant partners both from industry and research institutes and establish a consortium of relevant stakeholders along the entire maritime hydrogen value chain. Together with the consortium partners, the detailed scope and ambition of the main project will be defined, as well as detailing tasks and roles within the project. As shown by the coming demands for zero emission solutions in ferries, aquaculture vessels and high-speed ferries, there will be a significant demand for maritime hydrogen solutions in the near future. This offers a great potential for Norwegian industry. However, there are still needs to improve safety and reduce costs. The FISHY project will develop and demonstrate a new hydrogen solution, including ship installation and refueling infrastructure, that forms a platform from which many ship types can achieve zero-emission operation. It is anticipated that this project will enable significant climate gass emission reductions from the fishing fleet, and later other vessel types, as well as generating new green jobs and industry.
