In the world of veterinary medicine, molecular diagnostics have become the go-to method for pinpointing infectious diseases in our furry friends. This technology is crucial in customizing treatments and keeping our pets healthy. But, there's a catch: these advanced tests usually need fancy labs, specialized equipment, and trained experts, which means they're expensive. In Norway, many pet clinics, unable to do these tests themselves, end up sending samples abroad. This leads to slow diagnoses and sometimes, in a rush to help their patients, vets might use antibiotics as a blanket solution. This is worrying because overusing antibiotics can lead to antibiotic resistance, a growing problem worldwide. To tackle this, we're on a mission to create a special device, combining the magic of CRISPR technology with something called microfluidics. Think of it as a mini-lab that's easy to use right in the pet clinic. This device is set to make the whole process of diagnosing diseases quicker and more straightforward. It's like having a fast and accurate health detective right at the vet's fingertips, helping them make better treatment decisions on the spot. This means fewer unnecessary antibiotics and a step forward in the fight against antibiotic resistance. Our team's approach is like a think tank of different fields - molecular biology, microfluidics, and smart device design. We're focused on making a prototype that works well in various clinic environments. With this innovative device, we're not just creating a new gadget; we're opening doors to a future where pet health care is quicker, more accurate, and more accessible for everyone.
