PhysML workshop 2024

Awarded: NOK 99,999

SINTEF Digital, and specifically the Analytics and AI group in the Mathematics and Cybernetics department, will organize a workshop in connection to the RCN-funded project “PhysML: Structure-based machine learning for physical systems” (project no. 338779). The workshop will be held at the Soria Moria Hotel in Holmenkollen from May 14 to May 16, 2024. It will be an international scientific workshop on physics-informed machine learning, and will include attendants that are among the most distinguished researchers within this rapidly developing field. The promotion of the event will target established and early-career researchers, including PhD students, from Norway and abroad to attend and participate actively in the workshop. To our knowledge, this event will be the first international workshop with open registration within this field organized in Norway. As such, it will be crucial for strengthening the Norwegian research community and establishing ourselves among the international community in the field. The three-day workshop will consist of morning and afternoon talks every day, with sessions for discussions and debates, and ample room for sharing ideas and discussing potential collaborations between the participants. We will invite the industrial partners of PhysML, Elkem and Veas, to the workshop and have sessions specifically on applying physics-informed machine learning on industrial processes. The overarching topic is machine learning models that incorporate structures based on the underlying physics. We have reached out to many of the world’s top researchers within this area and are proud to report that many of them have accepted our invitation. The participation of Prof. George Em Karniadakis from Brown University and Prof. J. Nathan Kutz from the University of Washington will make the workshop attractive for anyone working on machine learning for physical systems.
