Subject Fields:

In this application, BoviBank Ltd. with partners propose a project taking advantage of the bovne biobank resources licenced to the former. The biobank will be explored by the most advanced genome tools available. Functional genes influencing fertility w ill be sought after by a combined approach; Identification of candidate genes through gene expression studies in relevant tissues and embryos from groups of animals that are extreme with regard to fertility. Securing intellectual property rights (IPR) wi l be an integrated part of the project. The project will use state-of-the art technology in two FUGE-platforms; high throughput SNP technology at CIGEN and microarray technology at The Norwegian Microarray Consortium respectively. Major outcome of the p roject will be a scientific basis for improving breeding programs by developing screening and selection tests for fertile animals. The prosject will also add valuable comparative knowledge to human fertility studies. Proper choice o of experienced participants, the unique biobank material and collaboration with the FUGE platforms, allow us to strongly believe that wil will be able to deliver results.
