ROMFORSK-Program for romforskning

Dr.scient prosjekt: "Waves and the Magnetic Canopy: Reflection, refraction, and mode conversion"

Awarded: NOK 1.8 mill.

This project aims to carry out numerical simulations of wave propagation in two- and three-dimensional stratified magneto-atmospheres that are representative of the solar photosphere, chromosphere, transition region and corona. Of particular interest is e valuating the conditions that are required for coupling between the fast and slow magneto-acoustic-gravity (MAG) waves as well as normal mode (Alfvén) waves. Additionally the project would attempt to make the connection to observations of the solar atmosp here specifically designed to unveil the role of waves in the energetics of the outer solar layers.
