There is a growing need for better utilisation of technical operational data in the maritime industry. Effective operation is becoming an important asset in industries where profit margins are continuously challenged. The maritime industry is faced with increasingly rigid documentation requirements with respect to safety and regularity.
Therefore, DNV, NTNU and MARINTEK have initiated the establishment of a Technical Operations Competence Centre, TOCC. In 2004, the TOCC establishment has started on a small scale, financed by the partners DNV, MARINTEK, Odfjell ASA and STAR Information Systems, and a method for monitoring of technical condition of ship main engines based on performance data has been developed.
In this project, the TOCC shall be fully e stablished by:
-Developing new and improved methods for utilising of technical operations data.
-Establishing an IT infrastructure to support the data handling and analysis.
-Assess organisational challenges in the companies.
-Increase the competence in t he maritime industry by distributing competence about efficient technical operations.
