PETROMAKS-Maksimal utnyttelse av petroleumsreserver

Injection of Oil-swellable Absorbent Polymers into oil-well perforations

Awarded: NOK 99,999

This preparatory project (Forprosjekt) aim to evalute and specify a potential new technology to increase the production rate of oil production wells. The work will form a basis for defining a main project applicable for the PETROMAKS programme. This poten tial new technique and product will contribute to increase the production from existing fields and support strengthening of oil and gas related innovations and business development. The study will include/clearify the main technical, operational and eco nomical aspects of the project. This will include chemical and physical properties of the absorbent polymer, establish methods and feasable equipment for injecting the polymer into the formation, operational requiremants and limitations, economical factor s etc. Possible spin-offs and synergies related to the project will be evaluated. The main challanges will probably lie in finding and combining the best suitable size of the polymer beads to allow a controlled injection and a successful swelling when ac tivated. Through this prepatory project one will establish a well founded scope of work, define the main project organisation, define cooperating companies (product development company, R&D Institute, oli companies/entreprenuer) including signing of an d evelopment agreement and establish main project budget. This project will include use of advanced applied material technology, mathematics/FEM and geological competence. A preparatory project (Forprosjekt) report will be produced. The main project will be defined as either a BIP or JIP project. The cooperation partner Extreme Invent has a key competence in reservoir and well completion.
