Decadal variability on the North Atlantic Ocean/Nordic Seas

Project DEC-OCEAN aims at clarifying the origin behind decadal and multi-decadal variability in the North Atlantic and its influences on the transports and properties of Atlantic water to the Nordic Seas. Regionally induced oceanic variability to the nort h of the Greenland-Scotland Ridge will also be assessed. In the project, all the available observational material will be combined with a ?state-of-the-art? numerical Ocean General Circulation Model in order to evaluate and develop the model into a tool f or describing and potentially predicting the physical conditions in the sea. Such a tool will prove highly valuable for physical oceanographers and climate scientists, as well as it can provide a useful platform for fisheries scientists and marine biologi st to better understand the rich ecological dynamics in the North Atlantic.
