LIN - Logistics in Norway

It is indicated that Norwegian transport and logistic costs are significant higher than average EU. In addition there is lack of knowledge about logistic efficiency and environmental issues compared to EU. To verify these indications and shortcomings on k nowledge of transport, logistic costs, efficiency and environmental issues, the LIN-project will develop tools for measuring and quantify the state of logistics in Norway. The study will cover different industries and commerce and regional levels. Main fo cus are on long-haul and cross-border transports, driving forces and trends that influence long-haul commodity flows, efficiency, environment, supply chain management and services. Framework conditions for different freight transport modes and comparison between countries, regions, different supply chains and segments are part of the project. The project will analyze the scope of cabotage and future impacts on organizing different transport modes and logistic services in Norway. Finally the project will a nalyze how current and future changes in pan-European logistics distribution networks will influence the long haulage transport sector. The opportunities and bottlenecks for offering long haulage and logistic services in the future will be studied. There are several methods that will be used during the project: Information and data on the objectives will be collected from public statistics, literature, other surveys and case studies representing different regions, industries and commerce. Information on l ogistic solutions, costs, use of ICT, use of outsourcing, value chain integration, will be collected through interviews. A new Logistic model system for Norway will be used to calculate logistic costs, efficiency and environmental impacts from scenarios d escribing different supply chains in Norway. The model system will also be used to estimate effects of expected changes in trade flows, more efficient logistic solutions on transport chains and transport solutions.
