Training for International Publishing on Transnationalism and International Migration (TIP-TIM)

Awarded: NOK 0.30 mill.

This training programme will bring together a group of twelve participants in four workshops over a two-year period. Each workshop will combine specialized training and individual follow-up. The programme is a co-operative effort between the International Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) and the Sussex Centre for Migration Research (SCMR) at the University of Sussex. Researchers at PRIO have published in, and acted as referees for, most of the leading journals in the field. SCMR is one of Europe's pr incipal research environments in international migration and ethnic relations. Faculty will come from the two institutions and include editors of leading journals, editorial managers, a language editor, and experienced authors and referees. The training w ill address the writing and publishing processes and the career development aspects of publishing. The specific aspects of publishing on international migration and ethnic relations will be emphasized. Participants will be drawn from both Norway and the United Kingdom. The programme will be open to PhD candidates and post-doctoral fellows who seek to submit at least one manuscript to an international peer-reviewed journal during 2008 or 2009. Participant selection will seek to establish a group with shar ed interests and thus facilitate collaboration beyond the programme, between institutions in Norway and between Norway and the United Kingdom. This is of strategic value to individual researchers as well as to the strengthening of Norwegian research in th e IMER field.
