Child migration: Care and Belonging in Transnational Networks

Awarded: NOK 0.30 mill.

There is today a massive interest both in research and politics for issues related to child migration, not least in terms of children's rights (see e.g. O'Connell Davidson & Farrow 2007). The proposed workshop series will reflect the broad range of approa ches used by researchers to grasp the complexities related to child migrants, their families and social networks. The themes we will work with are: ethics in research on child migration, the question of care and belonging in transnational families, how mi grant parents provide care for both the children they have left behind and those who live with them abroad, the issue of gender differences between child migrants and how this impacts on their experiences, and finally children who migrate to work. The CHI -MIG workshop series is a tool to work towards a publication with the same themes as the workshops described in this application and our proposal.
