Health, work and society - multi-disciplinary studies of determinants of sickness absence and disability

Awarded: NOK 12.3 mill.

New knowledge on health related income replacement programs and social exclusion critically depends on the ability to combine hypotheses involving individual and social determinants with health. This project brings together researchers from economics, soc iology, psychology and medicine with a common foundation in empirical research on sickness absence and disability. Register data for the full Norwegian population on demographics, socio-economic background and welfare benefits will be applied, along with extensive workplace data and health surveys. The main themes that will be considered are: Norms, workplace, and sickness absence; The role of Norwegian GPs in sickness absence and sickness certification; Longitudinal studies of sickness absence, disabilit y and health; Social class, gender, and ethnic differences in sickness absence.
