IEA-District Heating and Cooling Project, Annex IX

Awarded: NOK 0.75 mill.

The main objective is to perform co-ordinated, goal oriented research in co-operation between 9-10 IEA-Countries on the following projects: (1) The Potential for Increased Primary Energy Efficiency and Reduced CO2 emissions by DHC. (2) District Heating f or Energy Efficient Building Areas. (3) Interaction between District Energy and Future Buildings that. have Storage and Intermittent Surplus Energy. Depending on the final budget (Shared fund) one or two of the following projects will be selected: (4) Wo rldwide Policies and Barriers for District Heating and Cooling. (5) Energy for Future Buildings - Reducing the use of Fossil Energy. (6) International DHC experiences in service of new policy directions. (7) Distributed Solar Systems Interfaced to a Distr ict Heating System that has Seasonal Storage. All the selected projects will have importance in developing cost effective and energy efficient DH-systems in Norway. Of special interest in this Annex is how DH can contribute in reducing the use of primar y energy and reducing CO2-emission and the challenge DH has to meet with low heat density areas.
