Silicate Iron Formation

Awarded: NOK 36,000

This project will focus on the mineralogy and geochemistry of silicate iron formations that occur at and near the Lokken-Hoydal massive sulphide deposits in central Norway, and at the Stord and related deposits in southwestern Norway. Field work and sampl ing of the silicate iron formations was completed in 2006; chemical analyses and initial mineralogical characterization of the samples were done in 2007. Additional study of microtextures and mineral compositions will be carried out during the first month of this project, using laboratory facilities at NGU in Trondheim. The second month will be devoted to data interpretation and writing a manuscript for publication, tentatively planned for the journal Mineralium Deposita.
