Network on employment of migrant workers in China

As China continues to develop its economy in a global context of financial crises and reduced international demand for Chinese goods, the role of migrant workers continues to be crucial. Their livelihoods, rights and social security are important issues f or researches and policy makers alike. This projects aims to bring together Chinese and Norwegian researchers in a network on the study of employment of migrants in China. The invited institutions and researchers on the Chinese side are among the leading in work on Chinese migrants, they have long experience in research on migrants and extensive publications in the field. The network will focus on developing methodology for the study of migrants in addition to research and dissemination of results from completed and ongoing projects. The network also aims to produce new research projects on migrants, linking Chinese and Norwegian research environments. This new research will be focused on the situation of migrants in the current economic situation. The network applies for support to conduct two workshops for Chinese and Norwegian researcher in 2009 and 2010 respectively.
