The core of the present project is to strengthen the current knowledge and expertise in deposition of thin film materials for renewable energy. This is to be done through research focusing on the factors that influence the key performance of the materials when used in the form of thin films, here primarily as TCOs for solar cells and solid proton conducting oxides for fuel cells. The project includes four partners (University of Oslo, Baldur Coatings, Protia, and REC) with respective focus in field of co mpetence development. The common interest for all parties is application of thin film technology to control texture and dopant distribution. The effect such properties have on optical and electrical properties, will be investigated on TCO materials, where as its effects on gas permeability and ionic conductivity in complex materials will be investigated using proton conducting materials as models. We will utilize previously developed models for control of texture in growing films, as well as to apply diffe rent thermal post annealing treatments, in order to achieve the desired textures.
