Coordination and integration of Norwegian and Russian marine research activities on Svalbard (CoNoR)

In close cooperation with Svalbard Science Forum (SSF), we propose to organize two series of symposia, one in Svalbard and one in St Petersburg to promote, coordinate and integrate planned and ongoing Norwegian and Russian research activities on Svalbard in selected research fields. We focus on linking scientific activities at the Russian research base in Barentsburg with those at the Norwegian research bases in Longyearbyen and Ny-Ålesund. The project will complement the SSF cooperation workshop in Augus t, and will hence focus on adding the Norwegian and Russian research activities to the RiS database (especially those from the past). Thematically, we will focus on themes within marine research, and aim at providing a cpmprehensive overview of Norwegian and Russian activities on Svalbard within the following research fields: 1. Marine geology 2. Marine biology & ecology 3. Pollution of marine ecosystems 4. Climate change impacts on marine environment
