Peter Guttorp is professor in statistics at the University of Washington. He is a very recognized within modeling of climate. He has been active in IPCC work and is listed among the 21 statistician participating in IPCC. NR has made an agreement with Gutt orp that he will visit NR in 4-6 weeks per year. In this application we apply for funding for 2009 and 2010. He has already visited NR twice, in the fall 2008 and March 2009. We will also cooperate between the visits. We expect the following results from the visits: - Cooperation on scientific publications within climate change and downscaling. With particular focus on the uncertainty in the prognosis. - Cooperation in teaching and supervision of students This will be particular relevant for the IFCC pro ject. A short summary of Peter Gutorps CV: Peter Guttorp, Professor of Statistics, University of Washington, Guest Professor at the Norwegian Computing Center, Adjunct Professor of Statistics at Simon Fraser University, Director of the Northwest Researc h Center for Statistics and the Environment, and member of the QERM interdisciplinary faculty, obtained a degree in journalism from the Stockholm School of Journalism in 1969. He received a B.S. in mathematics, mathematical statistics, and musicology from the University of Lund, Sweden, in 1974, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of California at Berkeley, in 1980. He joined the University of Washington faculty in September 1980. Dr. Guttorp's research interests include uses of stochastic mode ls in scientific applications in hydrology, atmospheric science, geophysics, environmental science, and hematology. He is co-editor of Environmetrics. He is also former President of the International Environmetrics Society, a fellow of the American Statis tical Association and an elected member of the International Statistical Institute. During 2004-2005 he was the Environmental Research Professor of the Swedish Institute of Graduate Engineers.
