Ocean acidification research cooperation between Norway and USA

The project forms a continuation of a process aimed at developing coordinated scientific research projects between institutes responsible for advice on protection of the marine environment to the governments in Norway and USA. Institute of Marine Research and four institutes of the National Ocean and Atmosphere Administration will convene a symposium in Bergen dedicated to develop thoroughly discussed plans for coordinated scientific research and model building on physiological, ecological and socioeconom ic effects of ocean acidification. The symposium will include plenary discussions of current results from scientific research, and in depth discussions and demonstrations of practical solutions and cutting edge technology. One session will be used to disc uss of how to relate the central issues of ocean acidification effects to the general public and decision makers in order to provide sound justification for the financial cost of ocean acidification research. The event will be summed up by writing project plans for ocean acidification research in the form of proposals to be submitted to national and international funding agencies.
