Metablomics to study toxicity of acute discharges to cod larvae

Awarded: NOK 0.48 mill.

The original project summary is found in the application for the NFR project 184716/S40. The intended additional methodology will strengthen the original hypothesis testing by adding increased knowledge on the molecular responses of the exposures in the study. New hypotheses will be tested with respect to environmental metabolomics in addition to the original ones: 1)The metabolic profiles of cod larvae exposed to the water-soluble fraction (WSF) differ from those exposed to WSF+oil droplets. 2)The pert urbation in metabolic profile will be dependent on the concentration the larvae are exposed to. 3)The metabolic profiles of cod larvae exposed to low concentrations of WSF and WSF+oil droplets differ from the control group even though there is no evidence of differences in weight. In addition one hypothesis will be related to testing of photo enhanced toxicity (PET) 4)There will be no differences in the metabolic profiles of cod-larvae exposed to mixtures with PET compared to the non-enhanced.
