Optimized large-scale floating offshore wind energy converter

The main goal of the project is to identify and formulate promising offshore floating turbine concepts. This is broken down in the following 4 sub goals: 1) Develop and establish dedicated tools for the design analysis and assessment of the combination of a wind turbine and floating support structure for offshore conditions. 2) Gain insights in the key design drivers and scaling trends for floating offshore wind turbine rotor concepts that allow for more than 5 megawatt net power rating, with emphasis on dedicated large lightweight blade design. 3) Description of the main system cost drivers, i.e. development, material, and O&M cost structure. 4) Formulate a starting point for a sub-scale test that will be carried out in an ocean basin including wind and waves.
