The project aims at developing technology for producing bio-oil qualities from wood logging residues suitable for replacing fossil heating oils and for further upgrading to transportation fuel.
Biomass liquefaction by fast pyrolysis is a good initial s tep for bioenergy production as fast pyrolysis is flexible with respect to biomass feedstocks, brings efficient energy densification of biomass and is suitable for decentralised bio-oil production with favourable transport costs. In the future, the variou s bio-oil components in fast pyrolysis biooils can fractionated and used for integrated bulk production of transportation fuels, chemicals and energy in a biorefinery.
