Awarded: NOK 0.16 mill.

Project Manager:

Project Number:

202728

Project Period:

2010 - 2011

The main objective of the research project is to contribute to anthropological scholarship on self and subjectivity in Islam, by exploring experiences of illness, healing practices and imaginaries of well-being among women within cult healing milieus in E gypt. The hypothesis is that by exploring these experiences as moments of crisis, which specifically pass through the body, we may gain an innovative insight on the multidimensional and composite character of (Muslim) subjectivities. The stay in UoB will be essential to further research on Islamic medicine and anthropology of health and gender.
