ENIAC Call 2 MIRANDELA Millimetre-wave and Radio-frequency integration in Nanoelectronics for Modern Wireless 5 A Communications

Awarded: NOK 2.8 mill.

The MIRANDELA project aims to build a complete Digital, Mixed-Signal, Analog, RF and MMW platform for the design and the production of modern chips for wireless communications. Synergy with the ENIAC sub-programmes 7 and 8 are therefore obvious in the area of design methods and tools as specific effort need to be put on those topics to carry out a technology and design platform able to address the challenges of designing RF SOC and MMW SOC, especially closing the design gap, in the area of buildin g blocks and demonstrators for SDR, CR, digital signal generation, auto-calibration and RF digital enhancement, variability and reliability improvement by design as well as smart parasitic handling. A significant effort will be devoted to the architectur e of RF and millimetre-wave functions. In addition to traditional analog RF design, there are several new ideas that will be eventually deployed in such a technology node: millimetre-wave design in pure CMOS, RF design at very low power consumption, digit al enhanced RF design, auto calibration of RF functions, Software Defined Radio (SDR), Cognitive Radio (CR), repairable functions, BIST introduction, etc.
