Conceptualizing Climate Change and Migration study aims to adress: 1. Challenges associated with definitions and terminologies 2. Given the persistent lack of data and frequent questions raised on often quoted estimates, what are the factors that constra in the collection of data for climate change induced migration 3. What are methodological approaches that have been employed so far in the literature; what are the learnings and new challenges that have emerged 4. How climate change is an additional drive r for an already existing migration behavior and how it may induce new trends 5. What are the primary and secondary drivers behind the decision to migrate and what are the inter and cross linkages between them 6. What is that threshold that makes migrati on a considered option; whether it is forced or a voluntary option 7. How is a migration destination selected 8. What are the specific issues and concerns related to different types of movements in time and space: like permanent, seasonal , internal , tra ns-boundary etc 9. Why do some communities choose migration while some adapt in other ways; what are the push and pull factors; is it seasonal or temporary 10. What are the implications for adaptive capacity of source and receiving communities; livelihoo ds; entitlement to natural, economic and social capital; human security etc Study the inter-linkages between these thematic areas in order to understand climate change migration cross cutting issue. a. Physical: understanding the role of geographic an d climate attributes in inducing migration. b. Environmental: CC makes environmental effects and exacerbates current vulnerabilities that make it difficult for people to survive. c. Social: role of social capital w.r.t community networks, local institut ions, livelihood opportunities etc. d. Cultural and political: understanding the role of cultural factors and governance structures e. Economy as a pre-disposur to migration
