CSL'11 - the 20-th Annual Conference of the European Association for Computer Science Logic

Awarded: NOK 0.12 mill.

Computer Science Logic is the interdisciplinary field between mathematical logic and computer science. Computer Science Logic (CSL'yy) is the annual conference of the European Association of Computer Science Logic (EACSL, www.eacsl.org). The EACSL promote s computer science logic in the areas of scientific research and education. It supports both basic and application oriented research. The association also intends to advance the connections between basic research and industrial applications. In 2011 the 2 0-th Annual conference of the EACSL will be held in Bergen. This in is the primary objective of this project, with the secondary objectives as specified above. The most critical challenge any international scientific conference faces, is to come up with an interesting scientific program. The two main ingredients of such a program are contributed papers and invited lectures. The contributed papers will be carefully peer-reviewed by a program committee of international standing. It is important to attract as many submissions as possible, so that the selection process is truly competitive. In order to attract many submissions, the conference fee should not be too high. Another important aspect is the quality of the invited lecturers. These should at least be offered reimbursement of travel and subsistence costs. The financial aspects of these challenges are addressed in this project proposal. The scientific aspects are taken care of under auspices of the EACSL. The benefits of organizing an international scientific conference usually go beyond the event itself, which is of course also most important. A well-organized, well-advertized conference can be expected to boost international collaboration, resulting in joint papers and joint project proposals, for example, for EU-funding. Bergen and Norway become better known and more attractive for young researchers, leading to better recruitment of MSc- and PhD-students in the field.
